Back to School, Brighter Futures: Why Education Is at the Heart of Everything BFCF Does

Four Boswell Family Charitable Foundation 2026 scholarship recipients holding award certificates at the annual foundation luncheon in Montgomery Alabama.

This week, thousands of students in Montgomery, Alabama are walking back into classrooms, carrying new notebooks and a year’s worth of possibility. For most, it’s the start of something exciting. For some, it’s the start of something they’re not sure they’ll be able to finish.

The Boswell Family Charitable Foundation was built for that second group — and, honestly, for everyone in between. Because the gap between a student’s academic potential and their ability to afford the education that potential deserves is a gap that communities can choose to close.

Education Is the Through-Line

Everything BFCF does is, at its core, about access. Access to a Christmas morning filled with joy for a child who doesn’t have it. Access to college for a student who has earned it but can’t fully fund it. Access to the resources, the guides, and the community that helps a first-generation college student navigate a system their family has never navigated before.

Back to school season is our favorite time of year because it’s the moment when potential is most visible. Every high school senior who just walked into their senior year is someone who could change Montgomery’s future. Our job — and your job as a donor and community member — is to make sure financial barriers don’t stop the ones who are ready.

What BFCF Is Doing This School Year

The 2026-2027 BFCF scholarship application window opens November 1. We award the Boswell Family Scholarship (any field of study) and the Eron L. Coleman STEM Scholarship (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Applications are reviewed blindly — no identifying information, just the work, the record, and the story. Award announcements are made April 15, two weeks before National College Decision Day.

Free preparation resources — essay writing guides, application checklists, and financial aid explainers — are available year-round at boswellfamilycharity.org/scholarships. No application required to access them.

The Class of 2026 Is Already Showing What’s Possible

This summer, we celebrated four extraordinary scholars at our annual luncheon — students who are now enrolled at UAB, Howard University, Morehouse College, and UAB, pursuing law, medicine, nursing, and advocacy. They are the proof that when a community invests in its young people with intention and consistency, the returns are real.

Have a wonderful back to school season, Montgomery. And if you know a senior who should apply in November, share this page with them today.
